Borgen - Power & Glory |
Follow on series after the first 3. Love that lady - what a smile! It rushes through the script and events, much as I would imagine it actually is in real live politics, but what do I know? |
Sherlock |
Well produced up-to-date version of the tales. Fast moving and sometimes annoying - well for me at least. |
St Jacques ... La Mocque |
Comedy based on a group of diverse folk walking from France to Santiado del Compestello. |
The English Patient |
Complex plot with some touching moments. The desert and Egypt. |
Britain's Secret Babies |
Documentary about war babies of UK women and African American soldiers. Classic family reunion stuff. |
Murder in Provence |
TV series about a judge and his woman in Provence. Well filmed, though the road backdrop for the DS25 is a tad annoying. Convoluted dialogue and plot. But entertaining. |
Navalny |
A most disturbing documentary. The West has allowed Putin to get away with murder. On the road we have aquiest, basically given him free reign to prosecute multiple wars and do immense damage to literally millions of people. |
Better Things |
US TV series of a mom with three daughters. Silly. |
Unvaccinated |
TV programme with 7 people who haven't been vaccinated in the UK - out of 4m who haven't. Amazing lack of knowledge and simply down the rabbit hole. |
Hunt for the Wilder People |
A disturbed child turns up at a remote area in New Zealand and ends up on the run with a man of the woods. On the run with a reward on their heads.
Quotes: "It was the best". "Magistical".
The Boys from the Blackstuff (1982) |
Mini series about lack of work in Liverpool. So much was destroyed back then. 5 parts and all harrowing. |
Brassed Off |
About a Brass Band at a coal mining pit set for closure. |
28 Days Later |
Distopia after a virus causing rage. Strange how such a lonely world can seem familiar. |
Big Nothing |
Really quite silly, a farce with a number of bodies and $2m |
While you were Sleeping |
Romcom with Sanda Bullock |
Den Eneste Ene (The Only One) |
Danish relationship drama, but with the lovely Sidse Babett Knudsen. |
The Lady Vanishes |
So many recognisable actors, including Angela Lansbury, Cybill Shepherd and Elliot Gould.
Based on the 1936 novel The Wheel Spins. A lady disappears off a train in Germany. |
Sleepers |
Star-studdied story of brutal New York. Including Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffmann and a young Minnie Driver. Music by John Williams. |
West Side Story |
I don't think I ever saw this. The music is wonderfully melodious and in spite of the story of Romeo and Juliet I sense hope in humanity. This hope is tempered by much of what I see around me. My how things have moved on to what we have in pop music today - not impressed. |
Serendipity |
Sweet little romantic movie. |
Banned! |
Series about Mary Whitehouse - a lady who did her best to hold back changes in society in the 60s. I think she did a lot to help people understand how bad religion actually is by holding back any and every change to their view of how we should live our lives. And of course "the hats" back in those days... |
Only Murders in the Building |
Series on Disney. All over the shop. I lost interest along the way. |
Mare of Easttown |
Very well done, Kate really does the part ans so many others too. It seems to me it's unusual for such a high-quality production to be spread over 7 episodes. |
Winter on Fire |
Ukraine's Fight for Freedom. The West has let slip, so the dictator took his chance - again. Stirring stuff. Maidan was a popular uprising, so many of us don't have the commitment and our politicians are useless behind heir masks, many of which are funded by criminals. We don't have morals anymore. |
Belfast |
Foreboding. I blame a lot of it on religion and membership of groups to the exclusion of a wider community. Impressive acting from
Caitriona Balfe and Jude Hill. |
Dune |
I must be missing a gene or something. All a bit silly from my perspective. |
Sex Slaves of the catholic church |
An Arte documentary, most disturbing, about nuns who were (are) mis-used by priests. The men are almost always protected, the women sometimes forced to terminate their pregnancy which is against all the church's rabid teachings. When an organisation demands "obedience" to some strange idea, this can be the result. |
Morning Glory |
Silly movie about a morning TV program. Some well-known actors. |
Bernie |
Quite silly. Based on a true murder story. |
Being the Ricardos |
Very good performances by Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem. Interesting story. |
The Book of Boba Fett |
Nice episodes, though I know little of the background. I did enjoy the music and "Clint Eastwood's" hat projecting the Syndicates assassin! |
Spirited Away |
a silly NYPD movie. |
The Other Guys |
A silly NYPD take-off movie. |
The Edge of Seventeen |
Coming of age from a difficult place, sweet. Hailee and Woody.. |
The Notebook |
Romance movie set in The South. Fine acting from Gena Rowlands, Ryan Gosling, James Gerner and Rachel MacAdams. Touching, I probably watched this when it first came out. |
Arrietty |
Ghibli - Touching story about the little people in an old house. |
Only Yesterday |
Ghibli - With flashbacks to 1966, lots of nostalga which I can easliy relate to. |
No Time to Die |
Much as expected. After all these decades the idea that the UK is special has faded almost to the extent it should have. Good for a laugh I suppose and the filming is still top class. |
Heat |
Probably saw this when it was first released, but I don't remember. De Niro and Al Pacino are exceptional, and so are many others. Stiring police/gangster movie from L.A. the hotbed of he genre. |
Stranger the Fiction |
Not often does one come across a film which gives a new perspective on the genre. This one does. Very well done all around. The main actors are excellent. And an IBM golfball typewriter... |
After Life |
An interesting TV series where Rick Gervais explores the life of a man who has lost his mate. I do like his atheist standing. Three seasons in 3 days, phew. It isn't well directed and the video flashbacks get to be too much, though the storyline requires them all. Gervais isn't a convincing actor. |
Stuck Together |
A lovely, weird lockdown flick set in Paris. |
From up on Poppy Hill |
Ghibli - Set in the 1960s a charming tale with elements of old, new and family difficulties and joys. |
Brave |
Disney animation recommended to listen to a Scottish accent - the voice of Mr. Connolly and of course the lovely Kelly Macdonald |
Kubo and the Two Strings |
Ghibli - Ah, the age old conquering of the evil empire. But, that George Harrison song at the end was pretty special. |
When Marnie was here |
Ghibli - Seen it before, but a touching story, which brings much sadness. |
Almost Famous |
A neat story with some evergreen sounds. Took me back to another time. Enjoyable performances and even the great Hoffman. |
